Welcome to the DUMC Troop 84 Website!

Boy Scout Troop 84 was chartered in March of 2011. We currently have 23 Scouts and are a very active Troop. We believe the principles of Scouting are best taught in the outdoors. We camp every month of the year and offer a mix of backpacking, car camping, lock-ins, and as always, summer camp.

We pull from Rock Springs and St. James Elementary, North & East Lincoln Middle & High School, Lincoln Charter, Stanley Middle, and Southlake Christian Academy. We serve our community by volunteering in many ways such as outdoor cleanups, helping the American Legion, collecting food for local food banks, and lots of other areas. We believe that serving others helps to instill the qualities of the Scout Oath and Law, encourages good citizenship, and will eventually produce responsible leaders who want to give back to their community.

We are currently chartered by the American Legion, Post 30 in Lincolnton, and were previously chartered by Denver United Methodist, who we still work closely with and meet in our facility behind their church.

If you are interested in participating in Scouts, we would love to hear from you. Please click on the "Contact Us" link to your left on the screen and fill in the information and someone with our Troop will be in contact with you.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Cory Sides - Scoutmaster

Troop 84 Scouts, Leaders, and Parents – I hope everyone enjoyed a weekend off of Scouting!  First off, I want to extend a huge thank you to the leaders who took a week off of work and other activities to go to summer camp.  It was a great time.  The weather was awesome, the Scouts earned a lot of merit badges and had a lot of fun, and we had a great all around week at Camp Daniel Boone.  We couldn’t do it without your help.

Troop 84 Scouts, Leaders, and Parents – Hope everyone enjoyed their Independence Day celebrations!

We’re 1 week away from summer camp.  It’s important that every Scout attending summer camp have a full Class A Uniform including Class A shirt with the correct patches, Troop 84 Boonie Hat, Troop 84 Neckerchief and slide, and Class A Boy Scout Pants.  These will be worn to dinner every night.  It’s best if they can get the pants that zip off into shorts in case it is hot. Please check with your Scout and make sure they have these.  If they are missing a hat, neckerchief, or slide, please have them talk to me ASAP so we can get one before summer camp.  If your Scout does not have Scout pants, here is a low-cost option you can get or order from Academy for $25.  Here is another option form Amazon that is $40, but you can probably have it on your doorstep before you finish reading this email.  If this presents a challenge at all, please contact me directly and we can help.

Troop 84 Scouts, Leaders, and Parents – This coming Saturday, June 13th, we’re planning to offer Swimming Merit Badge to Scouts who don’t already have it.  We’ll be doing this at Mr. Yount’s house on Mountain Island Lake (12026 Mountain Lake Cove Charlotte, NC 28216) from 9 AM to ~ 3 PM.  Scouts should already know how to swim (to complete they’ll have to be able to swim 100 yards unassisted).  The Troop will provide lunch.  We usually encourage new Scouts to take swimming merit badge as part of summer camp, but the water at Daniel Boone is freezing, so we thought it would be a good idea to offer it here.  The sign up is now open on the website, please sign up.
