Welcome to the DUMC Troop 84 Website!

Boy Scout Troop 84 was chartered in March of 2011. We currently have 23 Scouts and are a very active Troop. We believe the principles of Scouting are best taught in the outdoors. We camp every month of the year and offer a mix of backpacking, car camping, lock-ins, and as always, summer camp.

We pull from Rock Springs and St. James Elementary, North & East Lincoln Middle & High School, Lincoln Charter, Stanley Middle, and Southlake Christian Academy. We serve our community by volunteering in many ways such as outdoor cleanups, helping the American Legion, collecting food for local food banks, and lots of other areas. We believe that serving others helps to instill the qualities of the Scout Oath and Law, encourages good citizenship, and will eventually produce responsible leaders who want to give back to their community.

We are currently chartered by the American Legion, Post 30 in Lincolnton, and were previously chartered by Denver United Methodist, who we still work closely with and meet in our facility behind their church.

If you are interested in participating in Scouts, we would love to hear from you. Please click on the "Contact Us" link to your left on the screen and fill in the information and someone with our Troop will be in contact with you.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Cory Sides - Scoutmaster

Troop 84 Scouts, Leaders, and Parents – Last night we sent several of the new Scouts home with backpacks. For those who are going on our backpacking trip on 2 weeks to Morrow Mountain (this is an easy beginner backpacking trip for all ages), please bring these back packed. Packing list is attached and available on our website. Please pack clothes for the trip, a mess kit, pocket knife, flashlight, sleeping bag and tent (or hammock). Scout are encouraged to consider what they pack ask themselves if they really need it. Scouts may borrow tents and sleeping bags if needed. Scouts can tent together to cut down on weight (one Scout carry the poles, the other carry the tent). On this Friday we will inspect the packs and weigh them. The goal is to be in the 20 to 25 pound range (we will add food to their pack and full water bottles before we leave). If you haven’t signed up, please do so. This is a great experience, especially for first time backpackers. Sign up is now open and will close on Tuesday, 4/1.

Troop 84 Scouts, Leaders, and Parents – We had a great time this weekend at the Tree Farm. I know all the first time campers had a blast even though we decided to leave early and avoid the weather. The Scouts completed a long compass course as well as fire-building and team challenges. Special thanks to the Leaders who went out early in the week to set everything up for us.

Troop 84 Scouts, Leaders, and Parents – Thanks to everyone who came out to camp this weekend, to all the Leaders, and the parents for your patience. We had a great night of camping on Friday (big fire), and a great start to Saturday before the weather absolutely took over. Our campsite was basically 6” of mud by mid-afternoon and the weather was getting worse so we decided to call it early. For all the Scouts who came out for the first time, just know that it only gets better from here!
